Other organisations supporting Reading Together®

Do other organisations provide some support for the Reading Together® programme?

Yes. Many community libraries throughout New Zealand have supported the Reading Together® programme over the years. For example, Hamilton City Libraries has a Reading Together as a Family webpage, with information about the Reading Together® programme. An excerpt follows:

The Reading Together® programme is designed to teach parents and whānau how to help their child learn to read, build strong literacy skills and to set a foundation for future readers. The programme involves a series of workshops that teach simple strategies for making reading time a pleasure rather than one of anxiety, stress and, sometimes, anger.

In 2015, the New Zealand Book Council (now called Read NZ Te Pou Muramura) expanded their Writers in Schools programme to create The Otahuhu Writers in Schools Project, an innovative collaboration with the National Library's Services to Schools programme and the Otahuhu Community Library to support a cluster of five Otahuhu primary/intermediate Reading Together® schools.
